When Denis started in CFNC’s Birchmere classroom, his teachers and social worker immediately noticed red flags in his behavior. He was aggressive with other students, refused to share, and threw fits when his teachers tried to give him directions. Denis was placed in a social skills group led by a CFNC social worker. Denis met with a CFNC social worker weekly in a group setting to work on understanding and finding words to express his feelings. Elsa, Denis’ mother attended a mother’s support group offered weekly at CFNC. Now, Denis takes directions well, uses his words, follows the classroom routine, and interacts appropriately with his peers. This improved behavior, and greater support at home, has set him up for a successful year in kindergarten and an environment at home that supports his education.
