• Thanks For All the Supplies!

    September 20, 2017 Lisa Carter
Over the summer, we held our annual School Supply Drive - collecting much needed school supply items for our teachers and students. Our goal is to stock each classroom with all the materials they will need for the entire year, allowing our teachers and students to focus on the lessons and learning, and taking away the pressure of limited supplies. The response this year was overwhelming - how immensely lucky we are to be part of such a great community. Churches, individuals, and corporations all came out to support Alexandria's low-income preschoolers. Without the support of the community, our students…

  • CFNC Celebrates the First Week of School!

    September 11, 2017 Lisa Carter
Tuesday, September 5 was the first day of school and we finally welcomed a brand new group of students into our classrooms for the year. For almost all of our students, this is their very first time in the classroom. For some, it’s their first time being around other children outside of their family. It’s a big change for them, and the first day often brings some tears. Each day, the tears die down and it becomes easier and easier to let go of family members and jump into the school day. This year, CFNC is serving 138 children across…
  • Greenfield Senior Living Renovates our 3801 Classroom!

    August 29, 2017 Lisa Carter
“Oh my gosh, it’s so beautiful!” This was Ana Ventura’s, teacher at 3801, reaction upon walking into her newly renovated classroom. Not only does she now have brand new floors and a fresh coat of paint on the walls, but now she also has a chalkboard wall that goes all the way to the floor so the students can practice their letters. This incredible renovation is all because of the kindness and generosity of our Adopt-A-Classroom sponsor, Greenfield Senior Living. They set everything up, including finding and scheduling the company to complete the renovation! We knew it would be an…

  • Brianna’s Story

    July 26, 2017 Lisa Carter
Brianna came to CFNC speaking little to no English, but she is working closely with her teacher to grasp the English language and be ready for the public school system. One day in March, a volunteer came in to read a story to Brianna’s class. The volunteer sat on the rug with the students, and showed them all the illustrations. “Have you ever seen this before,” he asked Brianna, showing her an illustration of a man wearing a hat. Brianna didn’t respond, but that doesn’t mean her brain’s wheels weren’t turning. You could tell just by looking at her that…
