Week one was fun, but we’re glad it’s done!

September 5 was the first day of school for our students at CFNC. Like any first day of school for little ones, we had a few tears (from kids and from parents!). But mostly, 8 classrooms got into the swing of things without missing a beat. Miss Brenda and Miss Marina welcomed their children with a tasty breakfast, while other classes like Miss Tiffanie’s and Miss Katharine’s let the kids get used to the classroom and their new peers by laying out some toys and blocks on the carpet. When you’re welcoming a whole group of 4 year olds who have never been in a classroom before, you do what works for you and the kids! The tears quickly subsided for most, and the rest of the day went off without a hitch. Take a look at some of the sweet faces of the 2018-2019 school year, and come meet them! They give the best hugs and love visitors.

Thanks to Mayor Allison Silberberg and State Senator Adam Ebbin for dropping by to hand out backpacks donated by NBC4, and filled with supplies from our many school supply donors. Mayor Silberberg sang the ABCs, and a personal favorite, You Are My Sunshine. Mayor Ebbin read a great back to school story. And then each kid was handed a brand new backpack with brand new school supplies, books, and more. Check out the video below for more.

And then there’s this sweet face in Miss Ana and Miss Adriana’s class – she’s clearly getting used to this school thing pretty quickly.

Board Meeting Number 1 welcomed 3 New Board Members!

CFNC’s Board of Directors had its first meeting of FY19 and welcomed new board members Catie Meyer, Dave Frantz, and Jeff Foster. Catie Meyer has been a long-time supporter of CFNC’s mission and  served on the CFNC’s Capital Campaign Committee. Jeff Foster joins the CFNC board after a long tenure at DuPont Fabros Technology as their Chief Financial Officer. Jeff previously sat on the finance committee, and we’re excited to have his leadership on the board. Dave Frantz, also a long time CFNC supporter, is currently a partner for Conlon, Frantz, & Phelan, LLP, a premier law firm located in Washington, DC. An active member of the Alexandria nonprofit community, CFNC is lucky to have his expertise on the board. Please join us as we welcome our new board members! Want to see our entire board list?
